Die ZOT besteht aus drei Läufen (7.0km, 15.5km, 22.9km), einer Stafette (Run 7.0km/Bike 31.9km/Run 15.5km) und einem Bikerennen (31.9km). Die Stafette kann allein oder im Team absolviert werden. Die beiden längeren Läufe sind Trailruns. Sie führen über diverse Hügel und durch typische Tobel des Zürcher Oberlandes. Auch für Kinder werden diverse Läufe angeboten.
